Anime Review - Midori no Hibi
Synopsis: In his neighborhood, high school student, Seiji Sawamura is the unrivaled king of bullies. The man possessing the dreaded "Devil's Right Hand" according to his adversaries. In short, Seiji is your typical punk kid who loves a good fight and keeps winning too. Unfortunately, he can't seem to find a girlfriend because girls always avoid him because of his reputation. Unknown to him, he has a secret admirer in a timid and shy rich girl named Midori. However, Midori just can't seem to find the courage to confess her feelings for him. Then, by some VERY bizarre twist of fate, (which will remain unknown to all except for the creator of this manga/anime) Midori ends up literally becoming Seiji's right hand Review: When I first saw the ad for this series on Animax, I knew right-away that it was a must-watch. It had all my favorite elements in an anime. Comedy, drama, romance, action and just a little bit of magic. Well Midori no Hibi certainly does not disappoint. It's one of the few animes where the mangaka seems to know exactly what the target audience wants to see, or at least it felt that way in my case. This anime consists of 13 episodes with one main plot developing as various side-stories are presented in each episode. Over-all, the story is light and there's always something left hanging which keeps it from becoming boring. The main focus is on Seiji and Midori's relationship and how this strange incident enables them to re-evaluate their lives from a different perspective. (to the tune of Open Up Your Mind... lalala take another look from the other side!) The characters are standard anime fare, but also unique enough to be easily identifiable from other characters. Midori is the typical moe type bishoujo. Seiji is the impulsive, loud, violent but kind protagonist. Ayase plays the seemingly aloof, but lovestruck rival for Seiji's attention. Then there's all the fun side-characters who add up to the hilarity of this show. The music blends in naturally with the anime and the opening and ending themes are really beautiful, but my favorite is the background theme "Chiisana Tegami" Over-all Midori no Hibi is a light, fun, memorable and wholesome series that I strongly recommend to all audiences, anime fans or not. This anime has one of the best endings to date (as stated by Yanagi) On a side note... you might notice the small cut in episode 2... now I wonder what THAT could be hm? ^_^ (Animax version)
